Lifting system takes big load off patient car
IT IS a common sight in hospitals - nurses pulling and straining to lift up bed-bound patients for daily showers and meals. At Singapore General Hospital (SGH), however, all nurses need to do is to latch a sling on such a patient, and use a remote control device to move him, say, to the toilet. The sling is attached to motorised ceiling tracks which have been installed in ward rooms and along the corridor.

Ambulance companies compete for baby boomers
An aging population of baby boomers seeking access to medical services in the Knoxville area is heightening competition among ambulance companies for nonemergency medical transport services. There is a growing need for nonemergency medical transportation based on the aging of the population and the increased desire for more frequent medical treatment, said Karen Estes, senior manager of transportation for Community Action Committee, a state and federally funded organization that works with the Council on Aging.

Slowest population growth in US since 1940s
(WASHINGTON) The population of the United States grew at its slowest rate since the 1940s this year, the Census Bureau reported on Wednesday, as the gloomy economy continued to depress births and immigration fell to its lowest level since 1991.

Country’s population expected to peak at 57 million
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's population is expected to peak at 57 million by 2090 and the country could become an aging society in 2024 if current population trends continue. The Department of Statistics made this projection based on Malaysia's increasing life expectancy and decreasing fertility rate that is recorded in the Population and Housing Census done throughout the years.
