INTEREST in a scheme which gives older, less well-off Singaporeans access to general practitioners (GPs) at polyclinic rates has taken a leap forward since its qualifying criteria were eased in August. The Primary Care Partnership Scheme (PCPS) now gets an average of 2,000 applicants a month, up from about 1,000 before.

Silver tsunami: Preparing for a new wave of seniors
It is clear that the older adult community will be growing dramatically over the next few years and this anticipated change has begun to challenge our communities to be prepared for this expected silver tsunami. A timely reminder not to short-change older workers
LAST Saturday's editorial ('Don't be cheapskates') is timely in that it serves to remind companies not to short-change older workers when the new re-employment law kicks in on Jan1. Some bosses are reluctant to pay older workers wages commensurate with their skills and experience as they regard them as financially independent, having collected their Central Provident Fund savings.
China’s greatest threat is internal
I have been travelling to China for more than three decades, but never have I encountered a Chinese leadership so uncertain of the country’s future. It is little exaggeration to say that the world’s most populous country is on its heels. The irony is inescapable: political leaders in the US and Asia are busy debating how best to meet what they see as the threat from China; political leaders in China are debating how best to meet the many threats they perceive to China.
