Besides providing music in the lounge or in residents' rooms, the women do sensory activities or use music to help the elderly reminisce about the past.

Healthcare & Wellness
‘Lankan healthcare world class’
The country’s private healthcare facilities are on par with international standards and the sector could look at business beyond borders. MOM to monitor older workers' rehiring terms
THE Manpower Ministry (MOM) will keep a close watch on whether employers are short-changing re-employed older workers, Minister of State for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin said yesterday. One main concern about re-employment is that workers might get short-changed by arbitrary wage cuts in their contracts, he noted.

Wanted: 11,000 elder care workers by 2020
By 2020, Singapore will need almost four times the number of people to work in the elder care sector than it now has, revealed Dr Amy Khor, who has been tasked with getting those workers. That means recruiting 11,000 more workers in all categories - from doctors and nurses to therapists and health-care attendants - over the next eight years, she said. The figure that has been made public for the first time underscores the unenviable task Dr Khor has ahead of her.

More estates to get elderly-friendly fittings
THREE towns - Whampoa, Bedok and Taman Jurong - will join Marine Parade in being retrofitted to make them elderly-friendly, but for them, the process will be fast-tracked. These four towns, among those with the oldest populations, will be in the vanguard of the move to transform Singapore into 'A City For All Ages'.

Ageing Research
Wanted: 11,000 elder care workers by 2020
LONDON (REUTERS) - Loss of memory and other brain function can start as early as age 45, posing a big challenge to scientists looking for new ways to stave off dementia, researchers said on Thursday. The finding from a 10-year study of more than 7,000 British government workers contradicts previous notions that cognitive decline does not begin before 60 years of age, and it could have far-reaching implications for dementia research.
